The Vive Cosmos is available for preorder today

The Vive Cosmos is HTC’s latest headset and looks to be an interesting addition to its VR family. With a 2880 by 1700 combined pixel resolution — an 88 percent increase over the original Vive — and inside-out tracking, the Cosmos looks to be an excellent upgrade to the original Vive.

The Cosmos will also allow you to switch the faceplates, for a cost, so you can use the base stations from the original Vive if you want to increase your play area from 310 degrees to the full 360.

HTC is also offering its Viveport Infinity software along with the Cosmos. Viveport Infinity is a subscription service a little like Xbox Game Pass — you pay a monthly subscription and gain access to a library of games to play — and with your preorder you get an entire years membership for free.

That’s a pretty amazing deal when most VR games will cost between $20 and $60. Using Viveport you can sample all the games the ecosystem has to offer. Will you be preordering the Vive Cosmos or do you have your eye on something else? Let us know!
