Galaxy S22 charging: Which model can best utilize your 45W fast charger?

The Galaxy Note 7 fiasco seems to have left a sour taste in Samsung’s mouth even in the current year. On one hand, we have the likes of Nubia who plans to launch a phone that can charge at 165 Watts (yes, you read that right), Samsung is yet to cross the 45W barrier. In fact, the Galaxy S21 Ultra from last year couldn’t even do that much despite its predecessors (Galaxy S20 Ultra, Galaxy Note 10+) being able to.

Has the situation improved with the Galaxy S22 series or has Samsung accepted that 25W is the sweet spot for mobile battery charging wattages? Are previous leaks about the Galaxy S22 Ultra supporting 65W fast charging true? Let’s find out.

All Galaxy S22 models and their charging speeds

The entry-level Galaxy S22, as expected, caps out at 25W. It isn’t much of a problem, given its battery capacity (3,700 mAh, 300 mAh smaller than the Galaxy S21). On the other hand, Samsung claims that one can charge the Galaxy S22+ and Galaxy S22 Ultra batteries to 50% in 20 minutes, thanks to support for 45W fast charging.

However, we’ll have to wait until we get our hands on the Galaxy S22+ and Galaxy S22 Ultra to determine how fast one can top up their batteries. Samsung’s decision to not include a charger in the box doesn’t help in the slightest, but we have a Samsung-branded 45W charger to put both devices to the test.
