Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 could get fast charging – but ‘gap widening’ with Apple

A new series of leaks have dropped, as the Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 edges ever-closer to launch.
We recently reported that the Galaxy Watch 5 was tipped for a 10 August unveiling and 26 August on-sale date. And now we have more ideas about battery charging and design.
First up, 9to5Google have spotted an FCC filing that shows a 10W charger – up from 5W on the Galaxy Watch 4. That could mean fast charging – or at least faster than the glacial Galaxy Watch 4.
However, we didn’t get an update on the possibility of the giant 572mAh battery that’s rumored to land on the Galaxy Watch 5 Pro.

Next up is a serious of drops from Ice Universe – a Twitter tipster that seems to have the inside track on the Galaxy Watch 5, and all things Samsung.
The anonymous Twitter account posted a series of tweets, including a supposed render of the Galaxy Watch 5 Pro screen, which shows a large black bezel around the edge.
Ice Universe commented that “its bezel and metal frame are still wide, far behind Apple’s stylish design.”
Apple reduced the area of black around the display with the Series 7, and this edge-to-edge display was one of the major upgrades to the smartwatch in 2022.
It looks like Samsung will have its work cut out. While its smartwatches will always be compared to Apple, in reality, the two do not compete. Galaxy Watch only supports Android smartphones, and Apple Watch is iOS only.
But the Google Pixel Watch is a different story. It will be a direct competitor, and the early renders from Google look sleek and attractive.
Samsung has had Wear 3.0 to itself with the Galaxy Watch 4, this time out it might feel the pressure.
