The Galaxy S9 is now getting its fourth Android security update of 2021

The Galaxy S9 series has yet to be demoted to quarterly security patches, and thanks to Samsung’s continued support, the 2018 flagships have received a total of fourth security updates so far this year. The April 2021 security patch is now available for the Galaxy S9 in Europe through a new OTA update that carries firmware version G96xFXXUFFUC6.

More specifically, Samsung has so far released the April 2021 security patch for the Galaxy S9+ variant in Germany. Nevertheless, other markets should follow suit, and the standard Galaxy S9 model shouldn’t be too far behind either.

Enjoy the monthly security updates while they last

Samsung stopped supporting the Galaxy S9 series with major Android OS upgrades after the release of One UI 2.5 last year. Since then, the company kept updating the Galaxy S9 lineup with monthly security updates, but it’s only a matter of time before the series will make the switch to a quarterly security update schedule. This change is expected to take place by the end of the year but there’s no clear indication as to when exactly it will happen.

As for the latest release, Galaxy S9+ owners in Germany should be able to download the April 2021 security update from the Software update section within the Settings app. Alternatively, SamMobile readers can download the new update for the Galaxy S9+ from our firmware archive and install it on their phones via a Windows PC.
