Samsung was very close to becoming India’s largest smart TV brand in Q3 2022

Samsung has been the number-one television brand in terms of sales across the globe for over sixteen years now. However, it hasn’t been having the same level of success in India lately. A few years ago, the brand lost its crown for selling the highest number of TVs in the country to Xiaomi. Since then, it has been the second-best TV brand in the Indian market sales-wise, and the last quarter wasn’t any different. However, this time, Samsung was very close to becoming the largest TV brand in India.

According to a new market analysis report from Counterpoint Research, Xiaomi, once again, managed to sell the highest number of smart televisions in India, with a market share of 11%. Samsung, although came in the second position, was very close to Xiaomi, managing to capture 10% of the market share. The Koran tech giant was just one percent away from becoming the largest TV brand in India sales-wise.

Smart TV Shipments By Brands In India In Q3 2022

As we’ve seen previously, the Samsung T4000 and the T5000 series TVs were the volume drivers for the brand. While the company also does very well in the high-end segment with its QLED TVs, it doesn’t offer any OLED TVs in the region. If it manages to bring the S95B OLED TV, which is quickly gaining traction globally, to the Indian market, it could help Samsung to sell more high-end TVs and take on Xiaomi.

Anyway, LG and OnePlus came in third and fourth positions, with 8% and 7% market shares, respectively. Vu managed to enter the top-five chart, replacing TCL with a market share of 5%. All the other brands made up 55% of the market share. Interestingly, the overall TV shipments in the country went up by 38% YoY, and according to Counterpoint Research, the steep rise in sales was primarily driven by the festive season, new launches, discounts, and promotions.
