FromSoftware’s Armored Core 6 has been reportedly leaked

The game developer FromSoftware is best known for brutal action-adventure games with dark fantasy settings, such as Dark Souls, Demon Souls, Bloodborne, and the upcoming Elden Ring. What some people may not know is that FromSoftware is also responsible for creating the Armored Core franchise.

Armored Core is a series of third-person shooters set in a post-apocalyptic future where you are contracted by corporations to pilot giant mechas and wage war for their benefit. These games feature fast-paced gameplay where you pilot an array of customizable mechs and charge into battle against armies of enemy mechs and warships. This series started in 1997 on the PlayStation, and its last major entry was Armored Core: Verdict Day for the Xbox 360 in 2013. There hasn’t been a single Armored Core since, but that may soon change.

Today, screenshots of what is likely to be Armored Core 6 have leaked onto the internet on ResetEra (via VGC). There is also a synopsis on the news post that states the premise is said to involve corporations, mercenaries, cultists, and the government fighting over an alien substance that could change human society as they know it. The synopsis also states the game will retain the series’ trademark mecha customization, large maps to explore, and three-dimensional mecha gameplay that mixes gunplay and close-range melee.

If this turns out to be true, it would be joyous news for Armored Core fans and mecha games in general. Could this new entry in the Armored Core series take elements and gameplay mechanics from FromSoftware’s Dark Souls games? Or will this game take a drastic turn during development, and become an entirely different game altogether, much like how Sekiro was originally conceived as a sequel to the Tenchu series?
