‘Xbox Series X’ controller has revised D-pad, share button, and more

Alongside the Xbox Series X, Microsoft showcased a revised Xbox controller, which will work across all Xbox One consoles. The new controller has some tweaks, but also some highly-requested features long-time fans will enjoy.

The new controller has a revised shape and size, to accommodate more types of people, although it’s unclear exactly how big or small it will be in the near-term. It will however also be compatible with previous-generation Xbox One consoles and will be included as standard with the Xbox Series X next-gen console too.

Microsoft is also finally including a sharing button, following Sony’s lead. It has become ubiquitous and standardized, with even Nintendo Switch jumping on board. In an interview with Gamespot, Phil Spencer noted that the inclusion was due to fan feedback.

“We’re not the first ones to do a share button, so we’re not going to say that we invented that, but we’ve heard feedback that sharing is such a part of a gaming experience now for many of our players. I wanted a dedicated button to share, so you’ll see that.”

You’ll also be able to use current-gen controllers on the Xbox Series X, including the new Xbox Elite Series 2 controller.

The Xbox Series X is coming later in 2020, and will boast beastly gaming tech to power the next-generation of gaming visuals.
