Xbox Live is back up and running on October 14 (update)

Updated October 14, 2019: Xbox Live is back up and users aren’t reporting the update error anymore.

It looks like Xbox Live is down again on October 14. Those who are already signed in are able to play, but those who are attempting to sign in get an error that says an update failed. The only update we know that deployed today was for Xbox Insiders to test out the toxic chat filters. It seems like this didn’t go according to plan.

Many of our consoles that are not part of the Xbox Insider program are also receiving this error. Initial reports indicated that the problem was limited to Xbox Insiders, but that’s clearly not the case. We were able to verify this ourselves on an Xbox One X that isn’t part of the Xbox One Preview program.

In order to fix this, we would recommend taking your console offline. However, it may be a little tricky because it seems like the update error is triggered if you’re connected to the internet. You’ll probably have to turn off your router if your console is connected to WiFi, or unplug the ethernet cable if you’re console’s connected through ethernet.

At the time of writing, it’s unclear if Microsoft is aware of this outage. We’ll keep you posted as soon as we have an update.
