Which version of Destiny 2: Shadowkeep should you buy?

Best answer: While the Deluxe edition of Shadowkeep is nearly twice the price of the base DLC, it has all of this year’s season pass content included. As far as value for money goes, it is your best choice. If you’re new to Destiny 2 and only want to dip your toe in the water, then the base DLC is OK.

Season pass content is coming

With the complete overhaul coming to Destiny 2: Shadowkeep, Bungie has changed the way its expansions will work going forward. They’re now called Seasons and players will be getting them every few months. The first one, the Season of the Undying, is available with every purchase of Shadowkeep and involves a lot of Vex story missions.

Each Season pass is likely to cost somewhere between $10-$15, and there will be a total of four seasons each year. The Deluxe edition of Shadowkeep comes with all four season passes for the next year, as well as three exotic emotes for your Guardian, making it a great deal despite the higher price. It’ll save you money compared to just buying the base expansion and getting each Season individually.

Thinking of coming back?

If you are new to Destiny 2 and don’t want to commit to entire years worth of content that’s OK; the base Shadowkeep expansion has the season content for October through December and is just $35.

You will get to try all the latest features, including the new armor system and the Moon play area in the base expansion, as well as the Vex Raid when it arrives, so you will have an excellent idea of what to expect moving forward. Then, if you do decide to move forward, you can purchase the season passes individually.
