What’s new in Samsung’s One UI 5.0 beta 2 update for the Galaxy S22?

The second One UI 5.0 beta firmware update for the Galaxy S22 series is finally rolling out. Samsung began seeding the update in India earlier today, and beta testers can identify this release by the firmware version ending “ZVHK.” Interested in finding what’s new in this latest Android 13-based One UI 5.0 beta version for the Galaxy S22, S22+, and S22 Ultra? Here’s all you need to know.

Samsung breaks down the latest One UI 5.0 beta changelog into three sections: New Features, Bug fixes, and Known Issues. In terms of bug fixes, One UI 5.0 beta 2 addresses issues with the home screen, auto-rotate, the S Pen, shared links, touch sensitivity, Bixby Routines, screen capture, and more.

The update also fixes an issue preventing One UI 5.0 beta users from copying and forwarding content in Samsung Messages. It also addresses a problem that kept users from unlocking their phones using lock screen patterns. (via @SamsungRydah)

New features in One UI 5.0 beta 2 for the Galaxy S22 series

As far as new features are concerned, One UI 5.0 beta 2 brings a Smart Widget that can suggest useful apps or features.

Furthermore, the latest beta adds a new Maintenance Mode that users can enable whenever they might have to hand over their phones for repairs. This mode restricts access to personal data, including messages, photos, and accounts.

Privacy Detection is also a new thing in One UI 5.0 beta 2. Thanks to this addition, the share panel will inform users whenever they attempt to share photos containing sensitive information, such as ID cards, passports, and credit cards. It doesn’t prevent the user from sharing these types of photos but acts more as a reminder to help against accidental leaks.

Finally, Bixby Routines is now getting a makeover with the addition of a Life Style Mode. The Routines app’s home screen got split into two main categories, namely “Mode” and “Routines.” The Modes screen allows users to automatically change phone settings based on their current activity or situation.

Android 13 One UI 5.0 beta 2 known issues

No beta firmware is perfect, and this unwritten rule firmly applies to the latest One UI 5.0 beta release as well. Thankfully, Samsung’s official changelog mentions two known issues, both of which concern Samsung Wallet. They can also be avoided.

First, users that don’t update the Samsung Wallet app before applying the latest beta firmware might find that the Wallet app got removed. In this case, they will have to reinstall it manually.

The second and last known issue concerns the Digital Car Key feature in Samsung Wallet. Users who update to One UI 5.0 beta 2 might have problems operating the UWB Car Key and may have to delete and re-register their keys to get the feature working again.

There may be other unknown problems affecting the One UI 5.0 beta 2 firmware, but if this doesn’t discourage you from trying it out, you can check this guide on how to join Samsung One UI beta programs.
