Snapdragon Galaxy S22 picks up January 2024 security update
Samsung has a lot on its hands right now, what with the upcoming Consumer Electronics Show (CES) that kicks off on January 9 and the Galaxy S24 Unpacked launch event coming a week after that, but the company continues to push out software updates with impressive consistency.
Galaxy S22 owners in some countries are getting the January 2024 security update this weekend. The update is rolling out in some African and Middle Eastern countries, including Tunisia, Egypt, and the UAE. It can be identified by a firmware version that ends in DWL8.
Only Snapdragon-powered Galaxy S22, S22+, and S22 Ultra models are getting the update at this time, but it shouldn’t take long for the Exynos models to join the ranks. All you’re getting here are security fixes – the January 2024 patch fixes around 80 security vulnerabilities in the software on Galaxy smartphones and tablets, details of which can be found here.
When you’re ready to download the update, open the Settings » Software update menu on your S22, S22+, or S22 Ultra and tap the Download and install button. If you don’t manually check, you will eventually get an automatic notification about its availability. Alternatively, you can take the help of our firmware archive, where you can download the full-sized firmware files that can be installed on the phone using a Windows PC.
Author’s Note: The January update doesn’t come with anything but security fixes, but the next update for the Galaxy S22 lineup likely won’t be so boring. Samsung will probably start rolling out the One UI 6.1 update for eligible devices at the end of the month, following the launch of the Galaxy S24 lineup, which will be the first to come preloaded with One UI 6.1.
