Oppo Band Style fitness tracker going global on 8 March

Oppo is set to make the fitness tracking band it launched in 2020 more widely available giving it a new name with an official reveal event slated for 8 March.

The Chinese tech company launched the Oppo Band back in June last year, but much like its Oppo Watch Wear OS-packing smartwatch, it was initially up for grabs in China first.

Now it’s announced through its Oppo India Twitter page the arrival of the Oppo Band Style in India first, which appears to offer most of the same features as the Oppo Band with the same two looks.

The teaser video reveals that the Style will include a 1.1-inch colour AMOLED display, offer SpO2 continuous monitoring, sleep monitoring and offer 12 workout modes. The support for SpO2 monitoring would make it likely there’s a heart rate monitor on board here too. It’s also likely to work with the HeyTap Health app just like the Oppo Watch.

Battery life is tipped to be the same 14 days as the Oppo Band, though there’s no confirmation of whether it’ll have NFC like the China version.

There’s no details on pricing, but we think it’s likely it will affordable and it’s unlikely to be more than the CNY199 (around $28) it cost for the original or the Oppo Fashion Band, which launched at CNY249 ($35).

Oppo is not alone in targeting the more affordable end of the fitness tracker market. Xiaomi, Realme, Zepp Health and even smart home company Wyze have launched cheap fitness trackers over the past year.

Fitbit, Samsung and Huawei have also made their latest trackers cheaper too, which is a good thing for anyone that’s thinking about getting fit, but isn’t prepared to spend big to do it.

As we said, we don’t know all of the details about the Oppo Band Style and maybe there’s some surprises in store for us. All will be revealed on 8 March and we’ll update you once it’s all official.
