Nintendo Switch 2 could arrive this year with 8-inch LCD instead of OLED

Nintendo is developing a successor to the Switch, called the Switch 2. So far, leaks have revealed information about the chipset and price of the upcoming handheld portable gaming console. Now, a new report sheds light on the display and the launch timeline of the Nintendo Switch 2.

Nintendo Switch 2 to have an LCD instead of an OLED screen

According to a new report from Bloomberg, the Switch 2 will have an 8-inch LCD. For your reference, the Switch has a 7-inch LCD, whereas, the Switch OLED, has a 7-inch OLED display. So, that means the Switch 2 will have a larger display than the Switch and the Switch OLED but the display technology it will use will not be as good as that of the Switch OLED.

Since Nintendo already offers an OLED version of the Switch, people were expecting the company to offer an OLED screen as standard on the Switch 2. That, however, might not be the case, and that’s quite disappointing for people waiting for the console. That being said, Nintendo might launch an OLED version of the Switch 2 in the future, just like it did with the Switch.

Nintendo Switch 2 is arriving later this year

As for the launch timeline, the publication claims that Nintendo will launch the Switch 2 later this year. Previous reports have also suggested the same thing. So, it is very likely that the console is coming this year.

One of the leaks suggests that the Switch 2 will feature the Nvidia T239 chipset and it will lack hardware to support DLSS, resulting in poor ray-tracking performance. Another leak claims that the Nintendo will price the Switch 2 at USD 400, making it USD 100 costlier than the Switch. It also says that the games for the upcoming console will also be costlier than those for the current ones.
