Minecraft continues to crush every record, with 200 million copies sold

In a blog post earlier today, Microsoft commented on Minecraft‘s eleventh birthday by listing all of the game’s many accomplishments over the last year. This includes expanding access for Minecraft: Education Edition, as well as the release of the game’s most popular education content to the Marketplace for free, the use of Minecraft in virtual graduation ceremonies, and a whole lot more.

More interesting, however, is when Microsoft quietly revealed how Minecraft has been doing sales-wise. How well? Very. Minecraft has reportedly crossed the incredibly special 200 million mark, a threshold that no other game in history has crossed. The creative sandbox title continues to be a huge hit with consistent return players, with over 126 million people logging on every month. This is mind-boggling, as by some reports Minecraft’s monthly player count is greater than the total copies sold by the next closest game.

With Mojang Studios’ recent facelift, and a total of three franchises between Minecraft, Minecraft Dungeons, and Minecraft Earth, the Minecraft franchise continues to grow at an alarming rate. And with the Nether Update and ray tracing on Windows 10 paving the way forward for the game, the future has never looked brighter for Minecraft.
