Microsoft reports 13% increase in Windows and Surface revenue

Microsoft’s earnings report is out for the third quarter of the 2022 fiscal year, and it looks to be another good result for the company, which reported $49.4 billion in revenue, an increase of 18 percent year over year.

Specifically, Microsoft’s “More Personal Computing” organization reported overall revenue of $14.5 billion, an 11 percent increase year over year. Surface and Windows also met expectations, with Surface reporting a 13 percent increase, and Windows OEM reporting an 11 percent increase.

Microsoft says Windows OEM revenue was strong this quarter thanks to continue demand in the commercial PC market, which has a higher revenue per license. Specifically, Windows Commercial products and cloud services revenue grew 14 percent, thanks to Microsoft 365.

Here’s the rundown on Microsoft’s “More Personal Computing” revenue results:

• Windows OEM revenue increased 11%
• Windows Commercial products and cloud services revenue increased 14%
• Xbox content and services revenue increased 4%
• Search and news advertising revenue excluding traffic acquisition costs increased 23%
• Surface revenue increased 13%

Last quarter, Microsoft anticipated growth for Windows OEM and Surface in the low to mid teens, and it appears to have met those predictions. Microsoft will outline what it expects to achieve in its next quarter later today during its quarterly earnings call with CEO Satya Nadella.
