Huawei to hold HarmonyOS livestream event on June 2

HarmonyOS will soon be arriving to Huawei’s lineup of devices as the company rebrands EMUI. The new OS will debut during a livestream event held by Huawei on June 2 at 8PM local time where it will officially announce the new operating system.

The company posted a teaser video on its Weibo handle. The video debuts HarmonyOS’ boot screen which displays “Huawei” before showing the “HarmonyOS” logo. The note at the end of the teaser says a launch conference will announce both Harmony OS and a product will debut. This product is expected to be the Huawei MatePad2, which is reportedly the first device to come HarmonyOS out of the box.

Huawei has previously expressed that it aims to have 300 million devices running HarmonyOS by the end of this year with a third of those expected to be new devices that come with the new OS from the factory.

Earlier this month, we saw a video that compared Huawei’s current Android-based EMUI 11 with HarmonyOS side by side on different devices. At first glance, HarmonyOS is visually similar to EMUI 11 and it may still be based on Android. In any case, we’ll wait until we get our hands on a device the new software.
