Huawei Mate 60 Pro drop test shows that the 2nd gen Kunlun glass is quite tough
Several years ago Huawei was cut off from the global supply chain, so the company had to scramble to find home-grown replacements for all the parts needed to build a smartphone.
Perhaps the most interesting detail about the new Mate 60 series is that the company managed to restart chipset production – you can find a bit more details about the secretive Kirin 9000s chip in this post about a Huawei Mate 60 Pro teardown.

That’s not all, though, Huawei has also replaced the familiar Gorilla Glass with Kunlun glass (now in its second generation). Kunlun is Huawei’s own formulation of ion-strengthened glass that was first introduced with the Mate 50 Pro Kunlun Glass Edition.
Now, the formula has been improved for the 2023 generation. How does that hold up to the Corning glass? Well, it’s not a direct comparison, but the drop test performed by PBKreviews shows promising results.
Note that the plastic screen protector that was applied at the factory was removed for this test, this is just the naked glass against concrete (and more). Also, the Mate 60 Pro has a quad-curved display, so there is little to no protection offered by the bezels in a face-down fall.
It’s a pretty informal test and running the phone over with a car is certainly not standard procedure, but the Kunlun glass held up impressively well.
