Google Assistant on Galaxy Watch 4 supported in these countries and languages

Google Assistant is finally official for Samsung’s Galaxy Watch 4 series of smartwatches, almost a year after the watches first hit retail shelves. It’s a delay we can’t explain as neither Samsung nor Google have given a reason for it, but the wait for Google Assistant is now at an end for Galaxy Watch 4 customers. Or is it?

It turns out that officially, Google Assistant has only been released for the Galaxy Watch 4 and Galaxy Watch 4 Classic in 10 markets, even though we have been able to install it in countries Samsung doesn’t mention. The officially supported countries are Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Ireland, Japan, Taiwan, Korea, the UK, and the USA. We’re assuming more countries will be added to the list in the coming months, and we’ll update this article once that happens.

The official list of supported countries is short for now, but don’t let that stop you

For now, it seems Samsung is going by the languages Google Assistant currently supports on the watch: Danish, English (American, Canadian, United Kingdom, Australian, Irish), Japanese, Korean, Spanish, French (Canadian, France), and Taiwanese. However, that doesn’t mean you can’t use it in countries Samsung hasn’t listed. You just need to select the right language (if you’re willing to not use your native tongue) for it to work.

For example, in India, we were able to get Assistant up and running by setting the default language to English US (and removing English India and Hindi from the selected languages), and you should be able to do the same in your country. Before you can get around to changing the language, though, you will need to install Assistant on your Galaxy Watch 4, and we have a nice little guide that will help you do just that.

Have you installed Google Assistant on your Galaxy Watch 4? Will you be using it, or will you be sticking to Samsung’s Bixby? Let us know down in the comments!
