Galaxy A02s gets May 2023 update, catching up with newer phones

Although there are signs of Samsung preparing the June update for the Galaxy S23 series, the company also has more catching up to do for lower-ranked Galaxy phones, and the May 2023 update keeps expanding to more models.

The Galaxy A02s (SM-A207F) is the latest low-cost Samsung phone to receive the May 2023 update. It’s rolling out in Nepal, India, Sri Lanka, and possibly other markets. The update carries firmware version A207FXXS5CWE1.

Per the firmware version, this is just a routine security patch rather than a feature update. And according to Samsung’s tracker, the May 2023 security patch addresses 72 security flaws in Android OS and Samsung’s hardware and software combined. A few of those flaws were labeled “critical,” but most are “high” security threats.

Security patches are mostly what the Galaxy A02s is getting nowadays. The phone already received its last major firmware update, Android 12, last year, and it is not eligible for Android 13 or later versions. But phone owners don’t usually scoff at improved security, so the May 2023 patch should be a welcomed addition.

In markets where the May update is available, Galaxy A02s users can download it by opening the Settings app on their phones, accessing “Software update,” and tapping “Download and install.” If you prefer manual updates over a Windows PC, you can download the official firmware files from our website.
