Xiaomi’s foldable phone may leave Galaxy Z Fold 6 in the dust with impressive cameras

Despite being at least a couple of years earlier in the foldable smartphone market, Samsung seems to have lost the plot. Its foldable phones no longer wow people. Instead, Chinese smartphone brands have taken the reign from Samsung to bring groundbreaking hardware innovations to foldable smartphones, and an upcoming foldable phone from Xiaomi could leave the Galaxy Z Fold 6 in the dust later this year.

Xiaomi MIX Fold 4 could have four 50MP cameras on the rear to one up Galaxy Z Fold 6

According to a new report from China (via Android Headlines), Xiaomi’s next flagship foldable phone, the MIX Fold 4, will have impressive cameras. The upcoming foldable phone is rumored to feature four 50MP cameras on the rear, including one with a periscope-style telephoto lens. In comparison, the Galaxy Z Fold 5 has a 50MP primary camera, a 12MP ultrawide camera, and a 10MP telephoto camera. Even the Galaxy Z Fold 6 is expected to bring minor camera hardware improvements, and most of the significant changes could be related to the phone’s entire design.

Samsung is expected to bring a wider cover screen and a bigger battery with the Galaxy Z Fold 6. The MIX Fold 4 is also rumored to be thinner and lighter than its predecessor, which means it could be thinner than the Galaxy Z Fold 6. The MIX Fold 3 is much thinner than the Galaxy Z Fold 5.

Xiaomi’s first flip phone will rival Galaxy Z Flip 6

Xiaomi is also expected to unveil its first foldable smartphone with a clamshell form factor to rival the Galaxy Z Flip 5. The upcoming flip phone from Xiaomi is also said to be relatively light and slim. Both foldable phones from Xiaomi reportedly feature a crease that is not easily visible, already making it better than Samsung’s offering. Both smartphones also reportedly feature the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor.

It remains to be seen which improvements Samsung brings with the Galaxy Z Flip 6 and the Galaxy Z Fold 6 to stay relevant in the foldable smartphone market. Xiaomi’s upcoming foldable phones are expected to go official in the second half of this year, around the same time as Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip 6 and Galaxy Z Fold 6.
