The Minecraft Festival is being postponed for fear of the coronavirus

COVID-19, or coronavirus, is responsible for a large number of events and conventions to be cancelled in favor of protecting both employees and attendees. It seems events scheduled months into the future aren’t immune from this effect either, as Mojang as announced they’re postponing their planned Minecraft Festival only one week after announcing details and ticket prices.

The news is a bit of a shock, since the Minecraft Festival is still over six months away, but planning and organization have reportedly grinded to a halt because of the inability to travel safely. Mojang decided that it was better to postpone the event and plan it properly, rather than take a wait-and-see approach. Mojang wants to make the first-ever Minecraft Festival as epic as possible, which simply can’t happen without proper planning.

As disappointing as the news is, Mojang has offered a glimmer of hope. Minecraft Live, the stream dedicated to talking about the latest developments in the Minecraft world, is still scheduled to go forward as normal. Since that event is handled remotely, Minecraft fans will be able to tune in from the comfort of their own home, and hear all the newest announcements.
