While Ghostwire: Tokyo, a timed PS5 console exclusive, is the next game from Tokyo Gameworks, there’s already a team working on the next game after that. That’s according to Tango Gameworks studio head Shinji Mikamki, speaking with head of Xbox Phil Spencer at Tokyo Game Show. As translated by IGN, Mikami mentioned that “Right now John is in the middle of working energetically on a new game.”
One of the things you and I have talked about is the importance of young people in our industry, bringing new voices onto our creative teams, and hearing from a new generation of creators,” added Spencer.
John Johanas was the director on 2017 title The Evil Within 2, so it seems like Tango Gameworks is working as a multi-project studio, as part of the team works on this new game while the rest are finishing Ghostwire: Tokyo. This new game is also almost certainly exclusive to Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S and PC, due to Bethesda Softworks being brought into Xbox earlier in 2021.
No matter what the game is, it’ll likely have some sort of horror elements, as The Evil Within 2 is easily one of the best Xbox horror games available right now.
Tango Gameworks is one of the eight studios under the Bethesda Softworks branch of Xbox first-party development studios. Some of the other upcoming Xbox and PC titles from Bethesda Softworks include Arkane Austin’s Redfall and Bethesda Game Studios’ Starfield, which are currently due out sometime in Summer 2022 and on Nov. 11, 2022, respectively.
