Samsung’s E5 LTPO OLED display panel tops performance charts

It was revealed earlier this month that Samsung has developed a new OLED panel, and it will be used on the iQOO 8 series smartphone. Yesterday, the iQOO 8 and the iQOO 8 Pro were launched in China. The display analysis of the iQOO 8 Pro published by DisplayMate reveals that its performance is the best in the industry.

The 6.8-inch LTPO OLED panel used in the iQOO 8 Pro has QHD+ resolution (3,200 x 1,440 pixels), a 20:9 aspect ratio, up to 120Hz variable refresh rate, HDR10, and Dolby Vision. The display scored an A+ mark on DisplayMate’s test and received the DisplayMate Best Smartphone Display Award. It matched or topped 14 different tests, including the ones related to brightness, color accuracy, DCI-P3 and sRGB color gamut coverage, and screen reflectance.

The tests revealed that Samsung Display’s E5 OLED panel has excellent color reproduction, coverage of 112% DCI-P3 and 140% sRGB color spaces, full-screen peak brightness of 980 nits, and low-APL brightness of 1,508 nits. The E5 display also showcased the lowest screen reflectance ever tested by DisplayMate. Seven out of the fourteen performance records of this new OLED panel were rated “visually indistinguishable from perfect.

It uses the same Diamond Pixel arrangement used in the Galaxy Z Fold 3’s Eco OLED display. Apart from improved performance, the new display panel also consumes lower power.

The iQOO 8 Pro features a 6.8-inch QHD+ LTPO OLED panel with a 120Hz variable refresh rate, a 50MP OIS+48MP+13MP triple-camera setup on the rear, a 16MP selfie camera, a Snapdragon 888+ processor, 8GB/12GB RAM, 256GB/512GB internal storage, Android 11-based Origin OS, ultrasonic in-display fingerprint reader, a 4,500mAh battery, 120W fast wired charging, 50W fast wireless charging, and 10W reverse wireless charging.
