Samsung monthly updates: February 2023 security patch gets detailed

Last week, Samsung started rolling out the February 2023 security update to its Galaxy smartphones and tablets. The company has already released the update to a few high-end smartphones, including the Galaxy Note 20 series. Now, the company has detailed which vulnerabilities it has tackled through its new update.

The February 2023 security patch from Samsung fixes over four dozen security vulnerabilities. These include 48 vulnerabilities fixed by Google, while Samsung fixed six vulnerabilities found in Galaxy phones and tablets. Two of the vulnerabilities fixed by Samsung were classified as High severity, while the others were marked Moderate in terms of severity.

Some of those problems include vulnerabilities related to WindowManagerService, allowing an attacker to capture a screenshot. Another vulnerability found in the software’s UwbDataTxStatusEvent function allowed attackers to launch certain activities. A vulnerability in Secure Folder allowed unauthorized persons to physically access the phone to capture app preview. A vulnerability in the Contacts app allowed attackers to get account ID.

You can read about all the vulnerabilities fixed with the February 2022 security patch on Samsung’s dedicated security website. Twelve bug fixes from Google’s February 2022 security patch were included in Samsung’s previous patch.
