LG B4, C4, G4, and M4 OLED TVs announced for 2024
LG has announced its lineup of OLED TVs for 2024. The new series has four models — B4, C4, G4, and M4 — which succeed the last year’s B3, C3, G3, and M3 respectively. The company hasn’t announced refreshed versions of the A3 and the Z3. Successors to those models might come at a later date. The latest announcement comes right after the company unveiled the lineups of QNED/QNED Mini LED TVs and MyView smart monitors.
Screen sizes
The entry-level model, which is the LG B4, will be available in four screen sizes: 48-inch, 55-inch, 65-inch, and 75-inch. The next variant in the lineup, the LG C4, will come in six screen sizes: 42-inch, 48-inch, 55-inch, 65-inch, 77-inch, and 83-inch. Then comes the LG G4, which will be available in five screen sizes: 55-inch, 65-inch, 77-inch, 83-inch, and 97-inch. The top-end model, which is the LG M4, will be available in four screen sizes: 65-inch, 77-inch, 83-inch, and 97-inch.
Refresh rate upgraded from 120Hz to 144Hz
The C4, G4, and M4 feature a 144Hz refresh rate, instead of 120Hz on last year’s models, bringing the new TVs in line with the two OLED TVs from Samsung (S90C and S95C). The B4, just like its predecessor, has a 120Hz refresh rate. Of course, all models feature HDMI 2.1 and support Nvidia G-Sync Compatible and AMD FreeSync standards.
The G4 and the M4 also come with Micro Lens Array (MLA), a technology that boosts brightness. It was also present on the G3 and M3. People expected LG to extend MLA to C-series this year. Unfortunately, that didn’t happen. The two higher-end models also get a heatsink, which should allow them to offer high brightness levels for longer periods.
Faster processors
All four models feature new chipsets. The B4 comes with the α8 SoC and the C4 comes with the α9 Gen 7 SoC. Whereas, the other two models, G4 and the M4, feature the α11 processor. According to the company, the range-topping chipset offers 30% faster processing speed, 70% higher graphics performance, and 4x higher AI performance compared to its predecessor. The new chipsets should allow these TVs to offer better picture upscaling capability as well as faster performance throughout the user interface.
Chromecast and Wowcast support
LG is adding two much-needed features to the OLED lineup this year. The first one is support for Google Chromecast, allowing people to mirror content from their Android-based smartphones, tablets, or ChromeOS devices to these TVs. Just like last year, you also get support for Apple AirPlay. The second one is Wowcast Built-in, which will allow these TVs to connect with compatible LG soundbars wirelessly, eliminating the cable clutter, and bringing the new models in line with those from Samsung.
Five years of OS updates
According to LG, the new models feature the latest version of webOS, but the company hasn’t specified the version. All four TVs also qualify for the LG Re:New program, under which, the brand will offer software updates to these TVs for five years. LG hasn’t revealed the details about the availability and prices of these TVs. Expect the company to announce those details during its keynote at CES 2024, where it will also showcase these TVs, or during their launch, which should happen right after this year’s CES.
