It was reported a few months ago that the Galaxy S24 series will feature iPhone-like emergency texting via satellite connectivity. A few other reports over the past few weeks have reiterated the existence of the emergency feature. A new leak has confirmed that the Galaxy S24 can indeed let you text via satellite in emergencies.

A new screenshot from a Galaxy phone reveals what Samsung might call an emergency texting feature that will debut with the Galaxy S24. It is called ‘Emergency texts via satellite.’ Samsung explains that if you call emergency services when you’re out of range or not connected to a mobile network, Samsung will connect you via a satellite network so you can send an emergency text.

This feature will likely work as it does on recent iPhones. You can send text messages with your GPS location to emergency response teams so that they can find you and offer help. It would be great when you’re stuck in the middle of nowhere and cannot contact your family, friends, or emergency response teams via a cellular network. This feature will likely be available on Galaxy S24 units powered by Exynos and Snapdragon chips.

Samsung has developed its 5G NTN technology, offering two-way satellite communication. It meets the standards defined by the 3GPP (Release 17), and it could be used in the Galaxy S24, Galaxy S24+, and Galaxy S24 Ultra. However, it could be limited to some markets initially and then expand to other countries gradually.
