Galaxy S23 Ultra display “defect” is just a nothingburger
A few Galaxy S23 Ultra users have shared photos and video recordings of what appears to be a minuscule screen defect, wherein the screen seems to be bubbling up near one of its corners. One Galaxy S23 Ultra buyer took to Reddit to explain the situation, others took to Twitter. But it turns out this is neither a new issue specific to the Galaxy S23 Ultra nor a real problem or manufacturing defect.
The small “bubble” that may appear in the lower-right corner of the Galaxy S23 Ultra also appeared on the Galaxy S22 Ultra. And from memory, we’re almost sure that it may have also been present on at least one of our Galaxy Note 10 units we used a few years ago. We just ignored it because it didn’t seem like a real problem, and indeed, Samsung says it isn’t.
More of a beauty mark than a defect?
Samsung actually addressed questions about this screen issue last year, around the time the Galaxy S22 Ultra was shipping to customers. The company explained through a support page on the Taiwanese portal that this is “a normal phenomenon” and doesn’t affect the functionality or the lifespan of the product, and people should feel free to use their devices without worry.
The company explained that Samsung displays are composed of multiple components, including surface tempered glass, a dustproof layer, and a waterproof layer, to name a few. This bubbling effect appears to be a light refraction phenomenon that becomes visible at certain angles. Or so Samsung seems to claim. We’re not sure why it happens at factory level, and some Galaxy device users say that their phones don’t show this phenomenon, but whatever the case may be, Samsung already said it’s perfectly fine, so it probably is.
