Galaxy S10e, S10, and S10+ get December 2022 security update in the US
Samsung’s 2019 Galaxy S flagship lineup (not counting the Galaxy S10 Lite) is not eligible for the Android 13 and One UI 5.0 upgrade, but the devices continue to get fairly frequent security updates. The Galaxy S10e, Galaxy S10, and Galaxy S10+ received the December 2022 security update in quite a few countries in Europe a week ago, and a similar update is now rolling out over in the USA.
Only security fixes are included in latest Galaxy S10 update
Those using their Galaxy S10e, S10, or S10+ on the Comcast/Xfinity network are the lucky ones for whom the update is available at this time. It comes with firmware version G97xUSQS8IVL1 and, as expected, doesn’t have anything new to offer other than fixes for recently discovered security vulnerabilities.
The December 2022 security patch, as with all patches, fixes vulnerabilities in both the core Android OS and Samsung’s own software. Improper access to messages, the ability for hackers to remotely disable network traffic encryption, and a loophole in RCS messaging that allowed attackers to access incoming phone call numbers are some of the vulnerabilities the December 2022 patch addresses.
Galaxy S10e, S10, and S10+ owners can try downloading the new update manually from the phone’s Settings » Software update menu if they’re not satisfied waiting for the update notification to pop up automatically.
