Galaxy A70 surprisingly gets a third security update this year

The Galaxy A70 is supposed to get two security updates every year, and Samsung has already released two security updates to the carrier-locked variant (SM-A705U) of the device this year. But the company seems to have a soft spot for the phone as it now rolling a third security update to the carrier-locked Galaxy A70 in the US, and it brings December 2022 security patch.

The new software update that’s rolling out to the carrier-locked variant of the Galaxy A70 in the US (SM-A705U) has firmware version A705USQS2DVK1. It brings December 2022 security patch, which fixes 93 security vulnerabilities. The update is rolling out to devices that are on Comcast’s network.

According to our information, the carrier-locked variant of the Galaxy A70 in the US was sold only through Comcast. It means that all the carrier-locked Galaxy A70 devices in the country should be getting the latest update as we speak. You can check for it by going to Settings » Software Updates and tapping Download and install. You can also download the new firmware file from our database and flash it manually.

The Galaxy A70 made its debut in 2019 with Android 9.0 Pie (One UI 1.1). The phone was updated to the Android 11 OS (One UI 3.1.1) in March 2021, and it was the phone’s last major software update. So far, Samsung has released three successors to the device (Galaxy A71, Galaxy A72, and Galaxy A73). While the company was also planning to launch the Galaxy A74 in 2023, that plan has reportedly been dropped.
