Your Galaxy S23 has a smaller battery than the Galaxy S21

Did you buy a Galaxy S23 or Galaxy S23+ already? Good choice! These are certainly among the best Samsung phones on the market.

Samsung has equipped these devices with the latest technology. Both models also have larger batteries than their predecessors. However, you’d be surprised to know that they have smaller batteries than their counterparts from the Galaxy S21 series.

In everything else, the Galaxy S23 blows it out of the water

The Galaxy S21 has a 4,000mAh battery whereas the base Galaxy S23 has a 3,900mAh battery. Instead of the 4,800mAh cell found in the Galaxy S21+, the Galaxy S23+ has a 4,700mAh battery. Evidently, the batteries of the new handsets are 100mAh smaller than their ancestors.

It’s not surprising as Samsung has cut the battery sizes of these devices significantly in last year’s iteration, which was basically a one-step forward, two-steps backward situation. This year, Samsung can highlight the larger battery as one of the selling points of these two models. The Galaxy S23 Ultra model has the same 5,000mAh battery as the models before it.

Don’t let this put you off, though. Take a good look at the Galaxy S23 vs Galaxy S21 and you’ll see that the latest devices are a generational leap over their predecessors. There are some great camera-related upgrades and the new design is certainly very striking.

Perhaps next year with the Galaxy S24 series we’ll see batteries that are at least of the same size as the Galaxy S21, if not bigger, though that’s certainly what Samsung fans would prefer. That’s not to say these new handsets won’t be able to deliver better screen on time. The new devices are far more optimized and have more energy-efficient components. Even if the overall size is smaller, it’s likely that they will provide more battery life than the Galaxy S21 models.
