Xiaomi releases Mi Band 4 update to address swim tracking issues

Xiaomi has released an update for the Mi Band 4 that will apparently improve the fitness tracker’s swim tracking skills and add more watch face options.

Any improvements to the Band’s swim tracking are definitely welcomed as it was one of the few gripes we had with the fitness tracker when we put it to the test. It struggled to deliver accurate data, particularly on longer swims, when compared to other swim tracking watches.

The update also brings some new watch faces to the Mi Band 4 with Xiaomi polling users to see what types of watch face they’d like to see. The winning categories were game and anime characters, so the new faces include some designs that tie into popular games like Overwatch.

They’re available to access in the same way that you can find other Mi Band 4 faces, via the MiFit companion app. There are also a few new faces that highlight health data, which you might be more interested in if you’re not a big gaming or anime fan.

Xiaomi also confirmed that the Mi Band 4 is now on sale in India, after the Mi Band 2 and Mi Band 3 performed so well in the territory. It’s priced at 2,299 Indian Rupees (about $32) which is a bit of a markdown from the normal price of $40.

Despite our issues with the swim tracking, the Mi Band 4 is still on the whole one of the best budget fitness tracker you can buy right now. While both Samsung and Fitbit now offer more affordable devices, Xiaomi’s tracker still offers the best value for money. The new addition of a color touchscreen display has certainly helped Xiaomi shake off that cheap tracker feel it certainly had with its previous Mi Bands.

The firmware update to get those swim tracking improvements and watch faces should be available now. So, get that Mi Band 4 updated pronto.
