Xbox’s ‘Grounded’ breaks cover at PAX East, revealing gameplay and details

Legendary developer Obsidian Entertainment showed off their next game, Grounded, in a panel at PAX East 2020. For the first time, the public was shown gameplay footage. On top of this, the developers actively answered questions that they were asked by the panel’s crowd and provided some clarity on how certain parts of the game worked.

You can watch the full recording of the panel in the video above. The highlight of what we learned to me is that the AI of the bugs you can come across will be incredibly dynamic; for example, ants will change their behavior towards you depending on how you treat their workers and scouts, and you can encourage predatory creatures like spiders to migrate to different areas by wiping out the creatures they prey on. It was also pretty cool to see how the combat and crafting systems worked as well; from what we’ve been shown thus far, I think the game has a lot of potential.

We don’t know how much it will cost just yet, but we do know that it will be available on Xbox through both direct purchase as well as Game Pass. The game will also be coming to PC through Steam. Both versions of the game will have a period of Early Access slated to begin in Spring 2020, and the full game is anticipated to release in 2021.
