Xbox Series X gameplay may be showcased at AMD Financial Day
Today, a rumor emerged on Reddit that Microsoft would discuss the Xbox Series X at AMD Financial Day towards the end of the week. According to the post broken down by Twitter user Klobrille, Microsoft will talk about RDNA 2 and how it worked closely with AMD to develop it. However, the company has a lot more up its sleeves. A rain ray tracing video from potentially Forza Motorsport 8 will be shown off alongside a 4K resolution and 120 frames per second (FPS) upgrade to Forza Horizon 4. Lastly, a cloud solution to ray tracing will be revealed that should minimize the load on local hardware as long as the console or gaming rig is connected to the internet.
Rumor:
– MS attends AMD Financial Day to demonstrate RDNA2 (March 5)
– Turn 10 “showing off an unnamed racing game in the rain” with Raytracing
– Playground Games showing FH4 4K/120fps on XSX
– Azure Raytracing by Playground Games second team, forest teasehttps://t.co/EU4I2GAG8y— Klobrille (@klobrille) March 3, 2020
We’ve been hearing that this could be true so we decided to report on it. Obviously, when it comes to any rumor, take it with a pinch of salt until we receive official confirmation from AMD or Microsoft. If it’s true and RDNA 2 was developed with Microsoft in mind, it’s unclear where this leaves the PlayStation 5 and Sony.
It’s important that both companies fully disclose their console specifications so early adopters can make an educated decision on which device they want. However, it seems like the next-generation console battle will be fought over more than just teraflops if the cloud ray tracing technology takes off.
