Xbox One Wireless Controller in Phantom Magenta brings the purple passion

Microsoft’s Phantom line of Xbox controllers are among my favorite Xbox accessories. The hypnotic translucent gradient stylings of the previous Phantom Black controller made it, for me, the sexiest Xbox controller ever made, and I seriously wish they’d make a full Xbox console out of this material.

Following up on the Phantom Black and Phantom White controllers, Microsoft has now produced the all-new Phantom Magenta controller, which is currently available for preorder, with an expected release date of March 17, 2020.

We’ve been lucky enough to get an early sample of this mauve mistress, and we’re bringing you some sexy high-res shots.

We’re big fans of magenta at Windows Central (of course!), but this controller really takes the moody pigment to another level. The vivid and gorgeous translucency on the Phantom line of controllers exposes some of the delicate inner workings of the controller, fading into a deeper, darker abyss.

The sticks, triggers, back, and bumpers maintain a consistent darker mauve tone, with the brighter magenta dominating the top end of the gradient down.

The d-pad has a shiny, metallic finish, which adds a nice bit of flair. It carries the light in opposition to the gradient, which gives the overall finish a nice bit of depth.

The buttons have a nice two-tone finish, with clear plastic flanked by the lighter magenta tone, and the controller has some of the more recent modernizations, including textured grips and triggers. It also has 3.5mm connectivity for headphones, alongside the propietary Xbox port for older accessories like the Xbox chatpad.

Simply put, the controller is a stunner all around. It has all the standard features, including micro-USB connectivity, Bluetooth for PCs and phones, the proprietary Xbox wireless signal for consoles and compatible dongles and laptops, and two AA batteries inside the box.

The Phantom Magenta Xbox controller costs $70, making it $10 more expensive than the $60 RRP standard Xbox controller. You can also grab standard controllers for around $45 on Amazon in some circumstances. This probably isn’t the controller you’d buy as a spare for a friend given its price, but if you love the color and translucency, it’s a stunning addition to anyone’s controller collection.

The Phantom Magenta Xbox controller is available for preorder now, with an expected launch on March 17, 2020.
