Week 41 in review: Xperia 8, OnePlus 7T Pro, Oppo Reno Ace, Redmi 8 are here

October is one of the busiest months in the World of tech so it was only natural that there was plenty going on this week.

Let’s start with the unveils. OnePlus launched its 7T Pro with a Snapdragon 855+, 23% faster Warp Charge 30T and a slightly larger battery (85mAh larger). There’s a McLaren Edition too with 12GB of RAM and an exclusive design.

The OnePlus 7T Pro will be available in Europe next Thursday at €760 – that’s the same price as the 8/256GB version of the 7 Pro. The McLaren Edition is coming on November 5 and it will cost €860. North America and China will join Europe in getting the OnePlus 7T Pro next week.

The Oppo Reno Ace was announced as well, packing a Snapdragon 855+ and bonkers 65W wired charging. China will get it first, priced CNY 2,999 ($422) for the 8/128GB model, there’s also a 8/256GB variant for CNY 3,199 ($450) and a top spec’d 12/256 GB version for CNY 3,799 ($534).

Sony unveiled the Xperia 8 with a 21:9 screen, a dual camera and a Snapdragon 630 in tow. The Xperia 8 will remain exclusive to Japan and is expected to arrive later in October for around JPY 54,000 ($505). Another Japan-exclusive is the Sharp S7 – it has a claimed 1-week of battery endurance and runs Android One.

Xiaomi’s popular sub-brand unveiled the Redmi 8. It has a fingerprint scanner, 5,000mAh battery and a Snapdragon 439 with 4GB of RAM. The Redmi 8 will come in Sapphire Blue, Onyx Black and Ruby Red colors starting at INR 7,999 ($112) for the 3/32GB model while the 4/64 GB variant will go for INR 8,999 ($126). Sales in India are scheduled to begin at midnight on October 12.

Next week will be the much-anticipated unveil of Realme’s first flagship, the Realme X2 Pro. It will be announced on October 15 with a 90Hz display, 135Hz touch sampling rate, Snapdragon 855+, 50W SuperVOOC charging and a 64MP main camera.

Samsung has reportedly began testing the new periscope tele camera meant for the Galaxy S11. It’s projected to offer 5x optical zoom. It also announced the upcoming beta of One UI 2.0 based on Android 10 beta for the Galaxy S10 with support for the Galaxy Note10 coming soon.

Speaking of the Galaxy Note10, a cheaper variant of the flagship duo will arrive in Europe soon. Painted in Black or Red, it’s expected to be offer most of the the Galaxy Note10 and Note10+ experience at a lower price.

Finally, in Pixel 4-related news, Google’s next flagship pair will cost a bit more than their predecessors and will, sadly, retain the 64GB base storage. And, according to an unverified rumor, the Pixel 4 and 4 XL will come in Blue, Yellow, Pink and Green, alongside the White, Black and Orange.

OEMs will not get Google Mobile Services if they have an older OS version after that day.
