We go hands-on with the Samsung Galaxy S21 FE

We’re attending the long-awaited launch of the new Galaxy S21 FE in the USA. Samsung invited us to take the new Fan Edition phone out for an early test drive before its official market release, so, given the occasion, we’ve prepared a hands-on video for anyone that may be interested in buying this new device or learning more about it.

As expected, given the ‘Fan Edition’ moniker, the Galaxy S21 FE looks very much like the base Galaxy S21 model. But what you might not expect is for it to be both thinner and lighter than the Galaxy S20 FE. The new Fan Edition device has a 7.9mm profile and weighs around 13 grams less than the previous model, tipping the scales at 177g.

The phone feels familiar, as it has a metal frame and a polycarbonate finish. The haptic vibration feedback doesn’t seem to have improved since last year, so the feel of the phone hasn’t changed much since the Galaxy S20 FE.

Now, unlike last year’s Fan Edition device, the new Galaxy S21 FE will be released in four color options, which is somewhat of a disappointment given the six color options released last year. For the 2022 model, customers will get to choose between graphite (black/gray), lavender, olive, and white, and availability differs by market.

The software feels familiar, too, at least if you’ve used One UI 4.0 so far. The phone runs Android 12 and One UI 4.0, and everything appears to be running smoothly, at least in our experience. Of course, we’ll be taking a closer look at the device and software in our upcoming review, so stick around. Until then, you can check our Galaxy S21 FE hands-on video below for more info and a few sample photos that we captured with the phone’s triple-camera setup. Stay tuned.
