The Galaxy S21 FE finally went official last week with a $699 price tag. But does it make sense to buy the Galaxy S21 FE, especially since the Galaxy S22 launch is so close?
Many believe that spending $699 on the Galaxy S21 FE doesn’t make sense because you can get the Galaxy S22 next month if you spend just $100 more (if Samsung doesn’t hike the prices compared to the Galaxy S21). The Galaxy S22 will probably offer improved cameras with 8K video recording, a newer processor, and an ultrasonic fingerprint reader. However, there are two ways the Galaxy S21 FE could still beat the $799 Galaxy S22.
Galaxy S21 FE has a bigger display and probably much better battery life than Galaxy S22
The Galaxy S21 FE has a bigger, 6.4-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X display with a 120Hz refresh rate. In comparison, the Galaxy S22 is expected to feature a 6.1-inch display with similar specifications. The Galaxy S21 FE’s bigger screen offers more immersive web browsing, gaming, and media consumption.
Going by previous reports, the Galaxy S22 will be powered by a 3,700mAh battery, which is quite smaller than the Galaxy S21 FE’s 4,500mAh battery. A difference of 800mAh is unlikely to offset the Galaxy S22’s smaller display. Plus, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 is reportedly more power-hungry than the Snapdragon 888, so the Galaxy S22’s battery life might disappoint, given its battery capacity.
Screen size and battery life are among the most critical aspects of a smartphone for most people. So, the Galaxy S21 FE might still make sense for some users, especially those who want all-day battery life. In our usage, at least for the first few days, the Galaxy S21 FE shows promising battery life.
The Galaxy S21 FE has the same software that will come with the Galaxy S22, and it will get an equal amount of Android and security updates as well. When you consider all these things, the Galaxy S21 FE doesn’t seem like a bad deal at all. Samsung might also drop the Galaxy S21 FE’s price after the Galaxy S22 launch, making it a better deal for many.
