Titanium Zepp Z brings familiar features with a premium feel

Zepp has announced its next smartwatch – the Zepp Z – with a high quality design and a big boost in health smarts.

The company, now owned by Amazfit’s parent company Huami, has followed up its recent Zepp E Circle and Zepp E Round.

The striking, classic-looking smartwatch is made from titanium alloy, for a tough but lightweight feel (40g), with engraved bezel and brown leather strap.

On board is a 1.39-inch 454×454 AMOLED always-on display that’s as good as you’ll get in the smartwatch market. If that sounds familiar, it’s the same display as you’ll find on the Amazfit GTR 2 and Amazfit GTS 2.

Just like Zepp’s first line of smartwatches, there’s a big technical and feature crossover with the Amazfit line.

It’s reminiscent of the Huawei Watch GT 2 Pro that was launched last month, offering the features of the budget Huawei Watch GT 2e in a premium package.

So the Zepp Z brings SpO2 tracking, stress detection and all-day heart rate monitoring courtesy of Huami’s BioTracker 2 PPG module.

That sensor will also deliver the PAI (Personal Activity Intelligence) score, that grades your activity to help you determine you’re getting enough exercise.

It will work as an in-depth sleep monitor and will track naps.

There’s the same 12 sport profiles, with built-in GPS – and delivered into the Zepp app, just like Amazfit.

To put the Zepp Z in context, it’s the Amazfit GTR 2 for the discerning smartwatch buyer. And with such premium materials and strap choices, it certainly looks the part.

But you also pay for the design. It will cost $349, compared to $179.99 for the standard Amazfit GTR 2.
