Thousands of smart home devices not made by Samsung will support SmartThings
Samsung is betting on its new strategy of creating connected experiences and “bringing calm to our connected world.” Or in other words, enabling seamless smart home connectivity with as few barriers and headaches as possible. It outlined its vision at CES 2023, and one key element in its plan is to bring SmartThings technology to thousands of devices developed by other OEMs.
More than 300 companies will soon adopt SmartThings technology, Samsung announced at CES. Roughly 3,000 smart home devices spanning different categories, including air conditioners, smart door locks and lights, household appliances, automatic window shutters, and more, will support the SmartThings platform.
Samsung’s SmartThings Station could become the centerpiece
These thousands of devices will be compatible with the SmartThings app, enabling unprecedented freedom of brand choice. It’s all a part of Samsung DX’s vision to create a rich device ecosystem and robust services for its customers. The company believes this to be the next best step toward combating sluggish sales in the current economic climate.
The Samsung DX division was created in December 2021 by unifying different branches, including the TV, smartphone, and home appliance arms, in a single entity that can develop connected experiences without barriers or internal friction.
The company’s SmartThings Station announced at CES 2023 could become the heart of the smart home. It’s a wireless charger and a SmartThings hub capable of analyzing the user’s behavior and adapting smart home devices accordingly. The Station’s capabilities will be enriched by this expanded collaboration with hundreds of smart home OEMs.
