The Razer Viper at less than $50 is an unmissable Prime Day deal

In late 2019 Razer got in touch about a new mouse that was being launched in time for the holidays. Lots of brands make lots of good gaming mice, but having been a long-term Razer DeathAdder user, the idea of something all-new really piqued my interest.

That mouse turned out to be the Razer Viper, to this date the only gaming mouse I’ve ever awarded a perfect five stars to on our review score system. It’s Windows Central’s No. 1 pick for best PC gaming mouse. I expected it to be good, but it went far beyond any expectations.

Almost a year on, Razer has pushed its gaming mouse tech even further and the Viper doesn’t have some of the latest features. But as Prime Day has rolled around it has a significant discount, nearly half-off, and for any gamer playing any game, this is an opportunity to get greatness at a budget price.

There’s a reason I gave this full marks in the review; it really does tick all the boxes. The Viper was the first gaming mouse that I couldn’t genuinely find something wrong with. That rarely happens.

Why is it so good, then? Let’s start at the top. For one, it doesn’t eliminate left-handed gamers. While it’s not a feature that I’m looking for, I appreciate that Razer is one of the few companies that truly appreciates there are people out there who need a mouse than can be used in the left hand. The Viper’s ambidextrous design means everyone can enjoy it.

The Razer Viper truly does tick all the boxes.

When you start to loo closer, the Viper is absolutely packed with features that make it a dream to game with. The optical sensor underneath, while no longer Razer’s latest and greatest, but it’s still crazily accurate and when combined with the almost unnatural lightness of the Viper, you have an agile, precise mouse input that even the most skilled, professional gamers will appreciate. It’s backed up by a snag-free cable so light that you’ll think you’re using a wireless mouse.

The hardware on the Razer Viper is no joke, and while you might not immediately appreciate the impact of any of its design features, when you combine them all together you’re left with something breathtaking,

The Razer Viper is also designed to be as easy to live with as possible. Performance is one thing, but if it’s a frustrating thing to actually use then it loses value. There are two key features on the Viper that shouldn’t be overlooked.

The Viper is also one of the easiest gaming mice to live with.

The first is that the DPI switch is now on the bottom of the mouse. This is a pretty huge change that Razer has since kept rolling with subsequent mice. Being on the bottom means that in the heat of battle you won’t accidentally knock the DPI button and have to watch as your mouse suddenly veers to one side in a flash. You’ve always been able to remap these buttons, but that then meant you’d have to manually change DPI in Razer Synapse as and when you needed to.

Which links into the second key feature quite nicely. The Razer Viper has onboard storage for up to five different profiles. So, while you need Razer Synapse to set it up to your liking, once you’ve made your changes they can be saved to the mouse and you need never look at Synapse again. This has added implications for competitive gamers who travel to LAN events and have to use a PC that isn’t theirs and doesn’t have Synapse already loaded. Everything is simpler when you don’t need the companion app to get your personalised settings.

Prime Day discount not to be missed

So, to Prime Day then. At $80, the regular price for the Razer Viper isn’t too high, but it’s still potentially out of reach of many. It’s not an insignificant amount to spend on a mouse, even one this good. But Prime Day is the great equaliser and the $32 discount on it brings it into the realms of the budget buy.

I’d go so far as to say that for under $50 this mouse is an unmissable deal. You won’t get anything better for remotely close to this price. It’s a sensational buy and one of the star’s of Razer’s fairly vast Prime Day lineup.

The price is only around during October 13 and 14, and when Prime Day is done, so is this steal of a deal. So don’t miss out.
