The Outer Worlds to get story DLC in 2020, announcement teased

The Outer Worlds is a first-person role-playing game (RPG) from Obsidian Entertainment. Despite the fact that the team is now a part of Xbox Game Studios, this game is available on PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch due to past publishing agreements.

Recently, on Obsidian Entertainment’s forums, the team thanked everyone for their support during The Game Awards 2019. However, the story of The Outer Worlds isn’t over yet. Shyla, the Social Media Manager, confirmed that story downloadable content (DLC) was on the way in 2020. You can read a condensed version of the post below.

We want to take this opportunity to thank the incredible team behind The Outer Worlds. It is because of their hard work and dedication to this project that we received the Best Narrative, Best Performance – Ashly Burch, Best RPG, and Game of the Year nominations at The Game Awards… To all of those who voted for us in The Game Awards, you are all fantastic and we are so grateful for your support. The reception to The Outer Worlds has been unbelievable to see, and even just being nominated means a lot. However, the journey isn’t over yet as we are excited to announce that we will be expanding the story through DLC next year! Details will be made available at a later date.

It’s great to see that the game is getting new DLC in 2020. We can’t wait to see where the developer takes the adventure next. Maybe some romance DLC will be available too? One can hope. It seems like the DLC announcement may be dropping during the July 23 Xbox Series X gameplay showcase.

In Windows Central’s review, Jez Corden wrote, “The Outer Worlds is a tremendous RPG that feels like the culmination of Obsidian’s efforts with similar franchises over the years. As a fan of classic Bioware and Bethesda RPGs, The Outer Worlds not only scratches the itch, but exceeds the legacy of the titles it draws inspiration from in some ways.”

New adventures and horizons

The Outer Worlds is looking to be Obsidian Entertainment at its best, a tightly-focused role-playing game where your choices matter. Will it make good on that promise? Only time will tell, but it looks damn good so far.
