According to a post by the Hollywood Reporter, Daedalic Entertainment is making a The Lord of the Ring game. However, it’s not your standard fare, because it’s called “The Lord of the Rings: Gollum.” You’ll be able to take control of the troubled character between the years he found the One Ring and before the start of The Lord of the Rings novels and films.

When asked about The Lords of the Rings: Gollum, Daedalic Entertainment’s co-founder Carsten Fichtelmann said the following.

You already have that big conflict in the character, two voices talking to you continuously, which means there is a good reason there are decisions to make in the game: the Smeagol decisions or the Gollum decision. We have the story that we all know from the book, but everything that happens to him before he appears in the book are the main things we will see in our game. We will tell the story before he first appears in the books.

Now comes the bad news. You’ll have to wait until 2021 to play it. Luckily, it’s coming to “PC and all relevant console platforms at the time.” This means that we’ll likely see it on Xbox “Scarlett” and “Anaconda.” Scarlett is positioned to be Microsoft’s entry-level console, while Anaconda is the successor to the powerful Xbox One X.

The Hollywood Reporter said that there were plans for even more games down the line, but what that may entail is unclear at this point. Apparently, the 2021 release date for The Lord of the Rings: Gollum is when Amazon’s The Lord of the Rings show will launch, too.
