The Long Dark gets Xbox One X Enhanced, hits 4K resolution
The Long Dark pits players against the wilderness in icy northern Canada amid unnaturally cold weather. After crash-landing, you’re tasked with surviving the harsh realities of mother nature, fighting against the cold and wild animals as you hunt, fish, and generally try to stay alive. In addition to its signature survival mode, The Long Dark offers episodic content where you have to make tough decisions that impact other characters.
Today, the developer announced a new episode that was coming on October 22. You can read the statement from the team below.
It’s been a long time coming, but Episode Three is just around the corner… on Tuesday, October 22nd, you’ll all have the opportunity to jump in to Crossroads Elegy, and learn more about the story of the Quiet Apocalypse. We’re very excited to share this new part of the story of Mackenzie and Astrid, the mysteries of the aurora, and what’s happening on Great Bear in the midst of this… world-changing disaster.
However, buried deeper within the post were details about console enhancements.
With the Episode Three update, we are also including our enhancements to the Xbox One X and PlayStation 4 Pro (PS4 Pro). These enhancements include HDR lighting (works on Xbox One X, Xbox One S, PS4 Pro, PS4), and High Resolution support (4K on Xbox One X, 1440p on PS4 Pro). All versions of High Resolution support feature dynamic scaling.
It’s great to see that another game runs at 4K on Xbox One X. It should be the best console port as a result of this. Hopefully, the performance will improve too now that the title employs dynamic resolution.
