The Galaxy A22 4G just got benchmarked with the same SoC as the A32

New evidence has emerged from an online benchmark to lend even more weight to Samsung’s alleged intentions of releasing a 4G-only Galaxy A22 model along with a 5G variant. These two devices should look the same judging by a few press renders that leaked earlier this week, but they won’t be identical in terms of hardware specifications.

The Galaxy A22 5G (SM-A226B) was spotted in an online benchmark a couple of months ago when it was revealed that the phone is equipped with the MediaTek Dimensity 700 chipset. It turns out that the 4G variant of the Galaxy A22 — model number SM-A225F — also adopts an SoC made by MediaTek, except it’s the Helio G80 solution which is not quite as powerful as the Dimensity 700.

When a cheaper phone performs better than a costlier alternative

The Galaxy A22 seemingly follows a similar pattern to the costlier Galaxy A32, wherein the 4G model is powered by the MediaTek Helio G80 SoC.

But oddly enough, the Galaxy A22 5G is expected to perform better than the Galaxy A32 5G even if it will be cheaper, and it’s all thanks to the Dimensity 700 chipset’s higher clock speed. MediaTek sure isn’t making this easier, but despite the confusing monikers, the Dimensity 700 solution is more powerful than the Dimensity 720 5G chipset.

In other words, the Galaxy A22 is expected to be cheaper than the Galaxy A32, but as far as raw performance is concerned, the Galaxy A22 5G should perform better than the A32 5G, which is quite unusual.

As for the 4G model, Geekbench has revealed that the Galaxy A22 4G should ship with 6GB of RAM and Android 11. The device was able to score 293 points and 1,247 points in single and multi-core tests, respectively. Comparatively, the 5G variant was able to top 562 points and 1,755 points in the same tests a couple of months ago.

Samsung has yet to confirm the phone’s exact launch plans but rumors indicate at an H2 release. We’ll keep you posted.
