Tecno Camon 18 Premier in for review

The Tecno Camon 18 Premier announced earlier this month has landed at our office for review in the Polar Night color.

Opening its retail package reveals a protective case, 33W adapter, USB-C cable, earphones, SIM ejector tool, and the usual paperwork.

The Camon 18 Premier is built around a 6.7″ FullHD+ AMOLED screen with 120Hz refresh rate and a peak brightness of up to 550 nits. The panel has a punch hole in the center for the 32MP selfie camera, but there’s no fingerprint reader underneath.

Instead the scanner is embedded in the power key on the phone’s right-side frame, and that’s hardly a surprise since we’ve already seen quite a few phones having a side-mounted fingerprint scanner despite featuring an AMOLED display.

On the opposite side, we have three cameras and an LED flash sitting inside a rectangular island. The camera system consists of 64MP primary, 12MP ultrawide, and 8MP periscope telephoto units.

The ultrawide unit comes with gimbal OIS, while the periscope module offers 5x optical and 60x hybrid zoom. There’s also a Moon Probe mode which lets you take clear pictures of the Moon.

Under the hood, we have the Helio G96 SoC paired with 8GB RAM and 256GB storage, which is expandable via a microSD card. On the software side, we get Android 11 with Tecno’s HiOS 8.0 on top.

The Tecno Camon 18 Premier is fueled by a 4,750 mAh battery that draws power through a USB-C port at up to 33W. The smartphone also has an NFC chip and a 3.5mm headphone jack onboard.
