Synology now offers a rapid-fast 4TB SSD for NAS deployment

Synology announced the new 4TB (3.84TB usable) SAT5200 SSD for network-attached storage (NAS) enclosures. The company already has three SSDs available today, but this 4TB is the largest capacity thus far. Like mechanical drives, it’s best to use SSDs that are designed for NAS use.

Julien Chen, product manager for Synology’s SSDs, explained why NAS-optimized SSDs are better suitable for enclosure deployment.

“Part of designing a reliable storage system requires that companion drives that can consistently sustain heavy read and write operations without any performance degradation. Our SAT5200 SSDs are built specifically to tackle low-latency and consistent performance requirements demanded by our SMB and enterprise customers.”

While Synology’s SAT5200 SSD range is specifically designed for its own enclosures, you can use them in enclosures from other vendors. These SSDs come rocking serious performance numbers like 58,000 4K random write IOPS and come with end-to-end data protection, as well as power loss protection circuits.

The new 4TB is yet to be priced and will be available soon. The new capacity will join 480GB, 960GB, and 2TB NAS SSDs.
