Update: It looks like everything is back to normal for the most part on both platforms.
Following the official launch of Cyberpunk 2077, both Steam and GOG, two of the largest storefronts for PC games, went down according to reports from DownDetector. CD PROJEKT RED’s Fabian Mario Döhla also commented on the situation on Twitter, stating that “the hype is real.”
Indeed, the hype is real — so real, in fact, that most PC gamers were unable to download and play the game for awhile. The websites for Steam and GOG were frequently crashing and players were having difficulty connecting to servers for downloads. Thankfully, however, everything appears to be back to normal.
