Star Wars: KOTOR is officially returning to PC with full remake
One of the more prevalent gaming rumors in the past few years for fans of Star Wars has been whispers of a remaster for Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. The 2003 Star Wars RPG is often considered as one of the greatest RPGs of all time, and a remaster of the classic has been long-requested by fans. Today, during the PlayStation Showcase 2021, Sony Interactive Entertainment, Lucasfilm Games, and Aspyr confirmed that they’re working together to create Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Remake, a full rebuild of the original with vast improvements to every aspect.
Aspyr and Lucasfilm Games held an interview together to discuss bring Star Wars: KOTOR back to life with this remake, revealing additional details about the game. The team at Aspyr working on the remake boast of a long list of credentials and pedigrees, with many being experienced “AAA” RPG developers or even devs that worked on the original title. Aspyr and Lucasfilm are working to rebuild Star Wars: KOTOR from the ground up with modern techniques and technology, while preserving what made the original special (including the story that revolves around the terrifying Revan).
If Aspyr can deliver a faithful and meaningful remake of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, which is an understandably tall order in and of itself, we could be looking at one of the best PC games for fans of the original and RPG players in general. It looks like we’re in for a long wait, however, as the project is still relatively early on.
