Star Trek: Picard makes use of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 as a prop

Well, Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold series has made it into the Star Trek universe of the 25th century. In the second episode of the second season of Star Trek: Picard, we see the character of Dr. Agnes Jurati using a device to tap something as she tries to restore communications between the main characters of the series.

This is where we get our first glimpse of the Galaxy Z Fold series device. The device has a thick crease going between the center of the inside display, similar to what we have on Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold devices.

In a scene that takes place later, Dr. Jurati does something to boost everyone’s signal and opens a transporter window. Here we get a zoomed-in shot of the device’s crease. As noted by 9T05Google, since the shooting of Star Trek: Picard season 2 started back in early 2021, it is the Galaxy Z Fold 2 that is being used in the series.

Moreover, the camera cutout of the front-facing camera is visible, clearly revealing that it isn’t the first generation Fold, which came with a notched-camera cutout on the inside display.

The Star Trek franchise is known to showcase some of the modern-day technologies that actually exist today. It will be interesting to see what tech gadgets future shows of the Star Trek franchise highlight in their upcoming series, and whether a Samsung device will get to star in one of them.
