Snapdragon-powered Galaxy S20 FE is getting the July 2021 update

Samsung is pushing the July 2021 security patch to more Galaxy S20 FE variants through a new firmware update. The company began updating the international Exynos-powered Galaxy S20 FE model with the July 2021 security patch a week ago. Now, the Galaxy S20 FE variants equipped with the Snapdragon 865 chipset are getting the same treatment in several markets.

The Galaxy S20 FE 4G with the Snapdragon 865 chipset under the hood (SM-G780G) is getting updated in Malaysia, where the firmware is identified by version number G780GXXU1AUG2. Meanwhile, the Galaxy S20 FE 5G (SM-G781B) is getting a similar firmware update — G781BXXU3CUG2 — in various countries across Europe, including the Czech Republic, Greece, Italy, Poland, the Nordic region, and a few others.

The July 2021 security patch fixes Android Auto issues

Samsung had detailed the July 2021 security patch changelog last week. As usual, it addresses various security flaws affecting Google’s Android operating system, along with a few issues found within Samsung’s own software.

Most problems addressed by the July 2021 security patch pertain to Android OS. One of the bigger issues Galaxy smartphone users have experienced recently has to do with Android Auto crashing when unlocking the phone. Fortunately, Samsung and Google are now addressing this issue with the latest security patch.

As usual, Galaxy S20 FE owners in regions where the update is being rolled out should receive an update notification at any moment. The update process can also be triggered from the Settings app by accessing the Software update section and tapping Download and install.
